"Cilicia played a very important role in the history of civilizations, with its extensive arable lands and its position as a bridge between Anatolia, Mesopotamia and the Eastern Mediterranean, connecting these areas by land, sea and rivers. At the same time, Cilicia created its very own culture, and its peoples carried this culture to other regions, founded independent states, and recorded their languages already in ancient times. It is one of the few regions where over the centuries great inventions were made and major developments occurred in religion, literature, medicine, pharmacy, philosophy, magic and divination. The most important reason for writing this book is to introduce the archaeological and cultural heritage of Cilicia as well as its natural beauty in a convenient handbook, in both English and Turkish, while also summarizing recent developments in the region. It serves not only as a travel guide, but also presents spectacular images of the region. Several travel routes leading from west to east within the region are suggested. It is expected that especially tourism professionals will benefit from this publication.".

Registers and memoirs of Keppe, Karen, (1876-1935) was a Danish missionary and social worker, known for her work aid worker with Ottoman Armenian refugees and survivals of the Armenian Genocide, mainly widows and orphans, from 1903 until her death in Syria in 1935 (Near East Relief). She was a member of Johannes Lepsius's Deutsch Orient-Mission (German Orient Mission) and assumed responsibility (in 1903) for the Armenian children in the Millet Khan German Refugee Orphanage after the 1895 Urfa massacres. In Aleppo, today in the Syrian territory, various relief organizations such as orphanages, hospitals, vocational schools were established for the Armenians coming into the region due to tehcir. The social and economic welfare activities undertaken by the Ottoman administrators in the region were launched and conducted as of the very first days of the World War I. After the war various relief organizations engaged in certain activities in the region as well. One such an organization was the Near East Relief Foundation. The activities launched by the foundation were led by Karen JEPPE, a Danish philanthropist and a Commissioner at the League of Nations. Our study embodies the narratives of 1184 people whom the Near East Relief Foundation helped in the period given. (Although Karen Jeppe claims to have had rescued 1700 people, some of the records are not found in the League of Nations Archives in Geneva). The information taking place in the records found at the League of Nations Archives not only contains the names of the people, their parents' names, hometowns, ages, and their acceptance to the relief foundation, but the stories they lived throughout the period after the relocations.

Fine English Paperback. Cr. 8vo. (19 x 13 cm). In Turkish. 341, [8] p., b/w ills. Tarih boyunca Adana ovasina (Çukurova'ya) bir bakis. Çukurova historically known as Cilicia, is a geo-cultural region in south-central Turkey, covering the provinces of Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye and Hatay.[citation needed] With a population of almost 6 million, it is one of the largest population concentrations in Turkey. Çukurova in Turkish means roughly "Low Plain", çukur for "hollow, depression, ", ova for "plains". The region starts from Anamur at the west, extending east along the Mediterranean, stretching as far north as Tufanbeyli, wrapping around Gulf of Iskenderun, turning south at Erzin and finally terminating at Yayladagi on the border of Syria. The core area is Çukurova plain (formerly Cilicia Pedias), covering the area of Mersin on the west, Kozan on the north, Osmaniye on the east and the Mediterranean on the south. Adana-Mersin Metropolitan Area is the business and cultural center of Çukurova. Most of the Çukurova region is a large stretch of flat, fertile land which is among the most agriculturally productive areas of the world. Throughout history, Çukurova was a gateway from Europe to the Middle East and, being the shortest access point to the Mediterranean from the northern Middle East and Central Asia, it is a transportation hub, with its two major seaports and oil terminal.
