RARE monograph on a crucial period in the life and literary activity of the renowned Russian poet, novelist, and literary translator Boris Leonidovich Pasternak (1890-1960). The author - Lazar Fleishman emigrated to Israel in 1974, where his academic career began at the Department for Russian Studies and the Department of Comparative Literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was co-founder and co-editor of the series Slavica Hierosolymitana in 1977-1984. He was Visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley (1978-1979; 1980-1981), The University of Texas at Austin (1981-1982), Harvard, and Yale (1984-1985) before joining the Stanford faculty in 1985. His research interests encompass the history of 19th and 20th century Russian literature (especially, Pushkin, Pasternak, and Russian modernism); poetics; literary theory; 20th-century Russian history; Russian émigré literature, journalism and culture. Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original very attractive chromo-lithograph print of Soviet Tatarstan emblem. 24x17 cm. Bilingual in Tatar and Ottoman script. Eight paper-tapes on the extremities of paper. "Sekil 20" [i.e. Figure 20] written. It shows a peasant holding a sickle and a worker holding a pickaxe have joined their hands. The sun rises out of a wreath knitted with spikes and an arrow is drawn with a bow. Inside the wreath, "Tatar Sûrâlar Cumhuriyeti" is written in Arabic letters. In the lower part, hammer and sickle symbols stand out. Info about this emblem and its artist, and from which source it's taken couldn't be found. Litho.

RARE! Third volume of a translation of the novel "Zikronot le-bet Dawid" to the dialect of Persian spoken by the Jews of Bukhara in Uzbekistan. The book, itself a translation and adaptation of "Geheimnisse der Juden" by Hermann Reckendorf, has been translated by Raphael Galiboff, a prominent figure among the Bukharan Jews of Jerusalem, who sought to spread the ideals of the Haskalah movement in his community.
