Samuel Carpenter, was born in 1765, at Lancaster County, PA. He was a farmer for many years. In 1807 he moved to Lancaster for the purpose of having better opportunities for the education of his children. Here he engaged for some years in the business of inn-keeping. Lancaster at the time being the seat of the State government, and a great resort for strangers from all parts of the State, he developed wealth and influential connections. He was appointed an Alderman, and not long thereafter was elected Mayor of the City of Lancaster, a position to which he was frequently reelected. 205mm. Original full leather binding, very worn. A Londres, imprimé par J.G, l'an 1650. In-12 relié plein vélin de 155 pages. Contenant, en forme de journal, tout ce qui s'est faict et passé sur ce sujet dans le Parlement et en la Haute Cour de Justice, et la façon en laquelle il a esté mis à mort au mois de janvier 1649 (8). Le tout fidelement recueilly des pièces authentiques et traduit de l'Anglais. Suivi de : La déclaration des deux Maisons du Parlement d'Angleterre, contenant les causes et raisons qu'elles ont eues de résouldre et arrester, qu'elles ne s'appliqueront plus au Roy et n'auront plus aucune affaire avec luy. Et de : La déclaration des communes d'Angleterre, assemblées en Parlement, touchant la révocation et cassation de certains suffrages et la rupture du dernier Traité faict avec le Roy en l'isle de Wight. Le vélin est abimé en partie supérieure du dos, avec manque, une trace pale d'humidité en marge supérieure d'une page de garde blanche et de la page de titre, écriture du temps à la plume en page de garde blanche.
