The important docks railway street and district areas of the city are also included. Decorative scrolling and title cartouche around the edges of the image. The project of 'The Illustrated Atlas' was designed to be finished just in time for the anxiously awaited "Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations" or The Great Exhibition sometimes referred to as the Crystal Palace Exhibition in reference to the temporary structure in which it was held was an international exhibition that took place in Hyde Park London from 1 May to 11 October 1851. It was the first in a series of World's Fairs exhibitions of culture and industry that became popular in the 19th century and it was a much-anticipated event. The Great Exhibition was organized by Henry Cole and Prince Albert husband of the reigning monarch Queen Victoria. It was attended by numerous notable figures of the time including Charles Darwin Samuel Colt members of the Orléanist Royal Family and the writers Charlotte Brontë Charles Dickens Lewis Carroll George Eliot and Alfred Tennyson. Music for the opening was under the direction of Sir George Thomas Smart and the continuous music from the exhibited organs for the Queen's procession was "under the superintendence of William Sterndale Bennett". 18281971London: Seeleys 1828. First Edition. All published of this Anti-Catholic journal. Begun in July 1827 it ceased in 1828. Brown buckram boards with gilt titles to the spine. Volumes I & 2 bound as one. Bookplate of the Law Society to the inside board. Contemporary owner's signature to the half title. Contents to the beginning of volume I. The boards are in excellent condition. The pages of the journals are very clean and tidy with only a touch of foxing or edge wear to them. The contents are a variety of articles and letters aimed at proving the superiority of the the Protestant Faith over Popish Superstition. There is even an article on Prophecies showing the overthrow of the Roman Church in volume II. It seems that the editors didn't prophecies the demise of the journal as it ends at the end of the final issue without any comment. ii 1-380. 1-288 pp. hardcover

18933105<p>A superlative copy of the rare first edition 1893 written anonymously by a Church of England clergyman aiming to convince readers through a record of experiences séances psychic phenomena that the dead do communicate with the living. This is a really good copy and very rare in this condition. Uncut pages are excellent: no inscriptions no note no labels or stickers no widespread facing at all. FEPs have some darkening but otherwise pages have just general age wear. All pages present and well bound. Includes illustrations of apparent spirit writing. Very unusual to see such a clean copy of this edition. Binding is excellent and tight unlike many copies. Black boards are very clean and tidy for their age: a couple of light marks to spine and front and minor corner crumpling but otherwise just minor age wear. Striking large lithograph on India laid paper of one of the most famous monuments in England published in Salisbury around 1850. Showing visitors to the monument including a horse drawn carriage at far left visitor in top hat at center and a shepherd at the right reclining on a fallen stone his flock visible at the right. With a small oval vignette of the monument from a greater distance at the center below the large image. Below the main image "Pubd. by Clapperton Bookseller Catherine St. Salisbury Price 2s". With a caption at lower right reading "Diamr. of the outer circle of Stones 104 feet. Do. Circle formed by the ditch 312 __ Upright of the great Hexagon 20 feet_ Estimated weight of each 70 Tons."<br /> <br /> The Clapperton family established themselves in Salisbury in 1820 when the premises at Catherine Street were purchased; Kenneth Clapperton was a bookbinder bookseller printer and publisher. Walter Kenneth's son took over the business and began making fine art prints. He compiled and published the first Salisbury railway timetable and a cyclopaedia entitled 'Clapperton's register of facts and occurrences relating to literature the sciences and the arts'. Its Executive Committee whose members included Eli Thayer Edward Hale and William Spooner responds to criticism that the Society is a "mammoth moneyed corporation" which seeks "to control the institutions of Kansas." The charges against the Society were leveled in a Senate Report issued by the Chairman Stephen A. Douglas of the Committee on Territories. <br /> The Society says the Executive Committee does not promote "interference with the internal affairs and domestic concerns of the Territory;" it "has done what it could in a peaceable legal and constitutional way to aid in the settlement of Kansas by a population of freemen." <br /> FIRST EDITION. 22 Decker 220.
