193281870Boston: New England Conservatory of Music 1932. Presumed First Edition First printing. Single sheet printed on both sides. Fair. Single sheet approximately 11 inches by 9 inches printed on both sides folded in half resulting in four panels. Sheet has some wear tears and soiling. Scarce. The Honorary President of the event was Timothee Adamowski. The Conductor was Wallace Goodrich. The first inside panel is the program which presented selections from Beethoven Paderewski Ivar Wideen Carl Wohlfort Chopin and Micheimer. There were two choral number directed by Mr. Anthony Nurczynski an Apotheosis of Chopin by Professor Edward Burlingame Hill of Harvard and an Address by Dr. M. Marchlewski the Consul General of Poland. The second interior panel has Explanatory Notes which are continued on the rear panel. The notes were contributed by B. A. Jezierski. Edward Burlingame Hill September 9 1872 - July 9 1960 was an American composer. After graduating from Harvard University in 1894 Hill studied music in Boston with John Knowles Paine Frederick Field Bullard de Margaret Ruthven Lang and George Elbridge Whiting and in Paris with Charles Marie Widor. Finally on his return to Boston he pursued studies with George Whitefield Chadwick. He joined the Harvard faculty in 1908 remaining until his retirement in 1940. His later-famous pupils included Leonard Bernstein Roger Sessions Elliott Carter Walter Piston Ross Lee Finney and Virgil Thomson. Among a range of works He wrote four symphonies four symphonic poems two orchestral pantomimes two orchestral suites two piano concertos one violin concerto one cor anglais concerto chamber music jazz one choral ode and one cantata. Beula Duffey performed as a Soloist. At the age of 17 Beula became the youngest person in the history of Juilliard to become a faculty member. She was nicknamed the "Belle of Juilliard". She also had a number of radio appearances over a two year period on "CBS Sunday". On this program she performed two-piano concertos with Ernest Hutcheson who was her teacher. Leon Litwin provided piano accompaniment to a Choral ensemble. Litwin had a long association with the Boston Pops and conductor Arthur Fiedler. John Wallace Goodrich an American organist conductor and writer on music was born on May 27 1871. In 1888 Goodrich began studying organ with Henry Dunham and composition with George W. Chadwick at the New England Conservatory. He also studied with Rheinberger in Munich 1894-1895 and with Widor in Paris. In 1896-1897 Goodrich served as coach at the Leipzig Municipal Theater. In 1897 Goodrich returned to Boston and joined the organ faculty at NEC. He was appointed Dean in 1907 and subsequently Director in 1931- a position he held until 1942. Tymoteusz "Timothee" Adamowski March 24 1858 - April 18 1943 was a Polish-born American conductor composer and violinist. Born in Warsaw he studied in that city's conservatory later moving on to further studies in Paris. He served as the first conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra. The New England Conservatory of Music NEC is a private music school in Boston Massachusetts. It is the oldest independent music conservatory in the United States and among the most prestigious in the world. The conservatory is located on Huntington Avenue of the Arts near Boston Symphony Hall and is home to 750 students pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies along with 1400 more in its Preparatory School as well as the School of Continuing Education. NEC offers bachelor's degrees with majors in classical performance contemporary improvisation composition jazz musicology and music theory. The conservatory offers additional graduate degrees in accompaniment conducting and vocal pedagogy. Also offered are five-year joint double-degree programs with Harvard University and Tufts University. The New England Conservatory's faculty and alumni which comprise nearly fifty percent of the Boston Symphony Orchestra include 6 members of l'Order des Arts et des Lettres 14 Rome Prize recipients 51 Guggenheim Fellows and prizewinners at nearly every major respected music forum in the world. As of January 2020 11 MacArthur Fellows have been affiliated as faculty or alumni. NEC is the only music school in the United States designated as a National Historic Landmark and it is a pending Boston Landmark. Its primary concert hall Jordan Hall designed by Edmund M. Wheelright has long been regarded as one of the world's top concert halls for its superb acoustical qualities At the center of Boston's rich cultural history and musical life NEC hosts approximately 1000 concerts each year.
