The owner of this book was Henry Augustus Muhlenberg (1823-1854) was a PA politician and Congressman. He was from a famous political dynasty. Muhlenberg attended Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, then studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1844, practicing law in Reading. He was elected to the State Senate in 1849, serving until 1852 when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and began Congressional service on March 4, 1853, and died less than a year later. Sherlock was a leader among the brilliant group of London divines including Thomas Tenison, William Clagett, and Simon Patrick who carried on the literary defense of the Church of England against Catholicism from late in the reign of Charles II into that of James II.
