8vo., First Edition thus, with frontispiece, title-vignette and 7 plates; pictorial blue cloth, upper board blocked in silver and black, backstrip lettered in silver, blue endpapers, a near fine copy in publisher's board slip-case.
This album has 48 color plates tipped onto heavy card stock, showing some of the most well-known actors and actresses of the day. These are all hand- colored photos, showing for example Sarah Bernhardt in "Iseyl" (Isolde), or Ellen Terry in "Henry VIII". This copy is bound in a pebbly dark green cloth, with gilt title on the spine. It is soiled, and has several strips of old clear tape on the spine. (It stopped the split that was starting from spreading, but has taken on a rusty look). Inside all the plates are fine, but the white pages facing each plate, that carry the biographical text and curriculum vitae have mostly all picked up some foxing. Large folio, 14" high X 11" wide. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking.
