Recently rebacked quarter brown cloth early papered boards. Translation from Latin into English of the Royal College of Physicians' Pharmacopoeia providing a list of plants and their parts for use in medicines and other preparations and recipes for mixing and compounding. The unnamed translator makes an appeal to Lord Stanhope to look into the Royal College of Physicians which he accuses of quackery and bring it before the Legislature for 'reformation and redress'. Staining and wear to boards. Some closed tears and creasing to pages mostly minor at gutter 5 cm closed tear to top edge of page 13/14 2.5 cm closed tear to page 11 both without loss of text. Vol I boards and spine are detached. Vol II rear hinge started but still secure; top of spine separting. Both heavily rubbed exposing leasther and boards. Tops of spines chipped and torn. Remarkably gilt rules and lettering is still legible on both spines. Text blocks are tight and clean a few words are neatly blacked out on p. 530 of Vol II. A compendium of articles on a wide range of medical conditions and treatments. Includes fold-out diagrams of body systems such as the heart and lungs and the "Absorbent System" color and black and white plates and diagrams of organs and systems. An attractive item printed in black blue and red on both sides of a piece of 40 x 56cm. paper folded twice to make a 20 x 28cm. packet. In good condition lightly-aged with a short tape stain on one edge. Four black and white photographs: two showing a smiling Reginald Maudling with before/after captions 'At the inauguration of the City Computer Centre the Chancellor of the Exchequer presses the button and starts the Reader/Sorter . . .' and '. . . one second later'; the third photograph captioned 'The Computer room at 41 Lothbury showing the Reader/Sorter in background'; and the fourth 'A section of the West End Computer Centre at New Cavendish Street. Its apparatus and equipment is sic identical with that installed at the City Centre.' Brooks's talk with the Chairman of Westminster Bank Limited D. A. Stirling in the chair is 'Illustrated by: Film Slides and a Display of Electronic Equipment'. The talk is at Central Hall Westminster at 6.30pm on 9 April 1963: 'Teas will be served from 5 p.m. to 6.15 p.m.' Next to the two photographs of Maudling: 'The Lothbury Computer Centre was inaugurated by the Chancellor of the Exchequer on September 4 1962. The Centre has since been visited by the Lord Privy Seal and by senior executives from many organisations amongst them being the following: list of 37 names from 'Ab Nordiska Foreningsbanken Helsinki' to 'Union Bank Beverley Hills California'. A surprisingly scarce item considering the fact that the Lothbury Computer Centre was the first centre in Europe to computerise the handling of cheques using magnetic encoding marks. There are twelve numbered clauses in the Agreement. 1. That Adam Boolyer should conduct the business at 6 Seymour Row for them both. 2. All "monies" "be accounted for to Adam Boolyer". 3. William Boolyer shall receive 30s from the profits. 4. Independently of clause 3 William to receive a "fair share of the increase of profits" and "five percent upon all cash above eighty pounds per month which is taken". 5. Independently of clauses 3 & 4 William to get 7.5% of "all money which is taken by him." 6. Independently of clauses 34 & 5 William shall receive "all money which he may taken for No Ones". 7. Adam to get "profit which remains . as a fair remuneration for the share which he claims in the business." 8. William is to have no claim to any profits arising from shop-sales of "a Library or any Stationery & Small Goods or Fancy Articles which may be sold in the shop at Seymour Row". 9. William is to get sghare of profit on bindings sold at Seymour Row. 10. William is free to open a shop as a bookseller or anything else on which Adam has no claim. 11. At head a parody of the London Underground black rectangle over red circle roughly six and a half inches by three and a quarter bearing the notice 'ALIGHT HERE' in white letters. Beneath this the words 'FOR EVERY SMOKER.' with a red arrow at foot pointing to a box of Swan Vesta matches. Very good though lightly foxed. Without date or place [1920s or 30s?]. unknown
