15229Albion Iron Works Westbromwich West Bromwich. 21 June 1844. With 'WEST BROMWICH' postmark. 1p. 4to. Bifolium addressed on the reverse of the second leaf to 'Messrs. Thomson Hankey <& Co> Merchants 7 Mincing Lane London'. The second leaf is also docketed and carries two circular postmarks one from 'WEST BROMWICH'. Williams writes that he has returned to find 'an enquiry about the nails & chains'. He gives a price below which he cannot go adding: 'I must be paid for the Casks: but if a quantity of nails had been wanted I would have given my trouble on the other things as I should have made a profit on the nails'. The 'last Casks were indifferent as the P<> had a bad bargain. I would not send new ones. If I send more I must buy them.' The final paragraph reads: 'I confess the price for Chains seems high but they are very light & would be useless if made with bad iron such as Scotch hot blast but if you will venture that I am of opinion you may get them in London at a lower rate. I will assist you if you wish without making any charge for services.' Albion Iron Works, Westbromwich [West Bromwich]. 21 June 1844. With 'WEST BROMWICH' postmark. unknown

25499The original dates from the 1730s. The present facsimiles are mid- to late Victorian and probably the work of the London publishers John Murray. Curious items. Yale has the originals of these pages in an ‘Album formerly owned by John Murray containing items either by Pope or related to him 1717-1855’ described as ‘original proof of two pages from Pope's Epistles pages 69 and 70 with the author's corrections’. Each of the present items is printed on a 28.5 x 37.5 cm leaf of wove paper. A previous ownerlord Houghton in fact thought highly-enough of them to include them in an album as a profession white stub adheres neatly at the left of each. They are in fair condition lightly aged and worn each with central horizontal fold with short closed tear to outer edge. Presumably the work of the publishers John Murray but for what purpose is unclear. No other copies traced. See Image of half a page page too large for scanner. The original dates from the 1730s. 19348377London: Waterlow and Sons 1934. Quad royal station wall map 101 x 26 cms 40 x 50 inches printed in colours trivial wear at fold intersections and short split along one fold blank verso. The map attempts full integration of bus and coach routes tramways the Underground and main-line railways and is possibly the first issue showing the whole operating area of the recently formed London Passenger Transport Board already re-branded as London Transport. Examples would have been posted at selected bus and Underground stations enquiry offices and similar venues. The legend bottom left explains how the map has been distorted to allow for greater detail in the central area: the oval curves actually represent circles equidistant from Charing Cross. As well as public transport prominence is given to relatively new form of private travel by air. About a dozen areodromes RAF and civil had already sprung up within the LPTB area. Some such as RAF Biggin Hill would shortly find fame during the Battle of Britain. Others such as the small commercial fields at Heathrow and Gatwick and this must be one of the very first maps to show the latter would become the huge international hubs we know today. At the time the map was made Croydon boasted Britains major international airport. Map Waterlow and Sons unknown
