Fuller Title: THE PILGRIM'S PROGRESS From this World to That Which is to Come. With an Introduction by the Rev. H.R. Haweis. Each text page is framed in a highly decorative border. Many powerful full page illustrations, and numerous smaller text illustrations. Original pictorial full pictorial cloth binding; soiled and dust spotted, but still nice. Folio. 335 mm. Hardbound. Very good. A high point from the Golden Age of English Book Illustration this is a collaboration of three distinguished brother artists: George Wooliscroft Rhead, Jr (1855-1920) who was a talented pottery painter, etcher, illustrator and art teacher; Louis John Rhead (1857-1926) who was also a talented illustrator. He gained distinction as a poster designer. In 1883 he became Art Director for D. Appleton's Publishing House in New York City; and Frederick Alfred Rhead (1856-1933) spent his working life as an artist and designer for various potteries. The bold Art Nouveau illustrations and designs, along with the charming illustrations, make this work one of the most desirable trade books of the era. SCARCE. W44
