Closely-written in a neat and elegant hand signed ‘Philip Schaff’. In good condition on browned paper folded twice for postage. Begins: ‘My dear Mrs. Reynolds: / Many thanks for your kind invitation in which Mrs. Schaff & daughter join.’ Unfortunately he has made a mistake on that day ‘under the impression that the exercises would be over at about 5 o’clock’: ‘I shall miss a great pleasure of seeing you & Dr Reynolds once more in this brief pilgrimage on earth.’ He has ‘just engaged lodgings to remain here and in the neighbourhood till after the pan-Presbyt. Council’ and he is off to Lincoln ‘to spend Sunday with Canon Venables’.
