Dust jacket variant B with face on front panel yellow spine lettering and "Printed in USA" on rear flap shows commensurate wear on the front flap and some minor chips and tears along the extremities with a nick on the spine overall good. $2.50 jacket price intact. Dark and brooding novel of loneliness romance and murder in a small Southern town; basis for the dark and brooding and very romantic Frank Borzage film 1948 of the same title. NOTE: This novel was issued in both a red and green cloth binding with the green being slightly thicker than the red at least in examples I've seen. There are also two variant dust jackets: this one designated "Variant B" in Johnson "The Dark Page" features a man's head poking out of a cloudbank and partially blocking the moon and is again in my experience less common than the "no-face" version. . The dust jacket is Variant B with the face pictured on the front panel yellow spine lettering and "printed in U.S.A" on the rear flap. The front flap DOES have "The Viking Press" on the front flap however. A very nearly fine unmarked copy with a bit of shelfwear and lightly bumped at the corners. The dust jacket has small chips at the spine ends and a short creased tear on the front panel. There is a scribble faintly pencilled on the face pictured on the front panel. The rear panel is soiled. The price $2.50 is present on the front flap. In Brodart archival dust jacket protector. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Viking Hardcover

Foredge a little foxed else fine in very good plus dustwrapper with a little rubbing and a couple of very minor nicks and tears. A novel of bloodlust and racial hatred in a Southern community no biographical information about the author is provided. A curiosity - one of the other four novelettes chosen for publication in a contest in which Remembering Laughter Wallace Stegner's first regularly published book was the first prize winner. The dustjacket design is similar to Stegner's book. Unaccountably aside from this copy we have never seen any of the other prize winners. Little Brown hardcover

There is some light creasing including a horizontal crease where the program has been folded. Very good <p>The Russian Story was a compilation film edited by George Freedland and produced by Joseph Burstyn with English text by Theodore Strauss. Morris Carnovsky was one of the readers of the text. This program is for the premier showing at the Stanley presented by Joseph Burstyn and Artkino Pictures. The film is a compilation of scenes from fiction films by twenty-two Russian directors among them Eisenstein Dovzhenko and Pudovkin with scores by fifteen Russian composers including Shostakovich and Prokofieff. "The Russian Story" was sponsored by the National Council of American-Soviet Friendship which describes it in the program as "a film that unfolds in an exciting historical pageant of the heroism and determination of the Russian people in withstanding foreign invasion throughout the past thousand years" culminating in "the courage resourcefulness and efficiency with which for two full years the Soviet Union has resisted the Nazi onslaught."<p>Rare.
