DJ has minor shelfwear and tiny stain.; The history of early republican Rome was marked by a long series of social and political struggles between the patrician elite and the plebeians often called the 'Conflict of the Orders'. Its results helped Rome achieve the internal integration needed to conquer and rule the Mediterranean world. Despite its fundamental significance this process is difficult to understand because contemporaneous evidence is scarce and later literary sources present a gravely deformed picture. In Social Struggles in Archaic Rome experts from both sides of the Atlantic illuminate the history of these social conflicts-examining their causes and nature; analysing a wide range of social economic legal religious military and political aspects; and considering the reliability of the historical sources. Very very light shelfwear else fine.; English summary: How did the Roman veterans make their lives after the end of the term of service and discharge from the army What positions did they take in the social and economic structures of their chosen residences There is scarcely other source material that offers more answers to these questions than that which remains in the surviving papyri from Egypt. Patrick Sanger uses the document collections of the veterans Aelius Sarapammon and Aelius Syrion to make possible a thorough analysis of the socio-economic position of the two protagonists who made their home in Ankyronpolis a village of mid-Egyptian region of Herakleopolis. The pertinent 19 archival texts P. Vet. Aelii span the time from the end of the 2nd to the middle of the 3rd century CR and are presented here some for the first time and some as a new edition. These documents which will not only garner interest by reason of their time period but also their contents serve as the point of departure for a presentation of the socio-economic situation of veterans in Egypt and other provinces of the Roman Empire as well as for the detailed study of the legal and administrative history. 2011. Hardcover. Fine in No Dust Jacket dust jacket. . 3515098607 . 20046631Archaeopress. 2004. Softcover. Fine. British Archaeological Reports B. A. R. British Series 378; 101 pages; This study relates the significant bronze coinage of the usurper Carausius 286-93 to the archaeological and historical evidence from the period. Since the publication of Roman Imperial Coinage. Volume Vii in 1933 many new and significant coin types have appeared. Several important hoards have been published in the intervening years which throw a new light on discussions of the chronology of the coinage enabling a modified sequence of issues to be postulated. Part of an important hoard discovered in the 1980Aes has been reconstituted. Much information regarding the archaeology of Roman Britain in the latter half of the third century has been published during the last three decades and this is discussed in conjunction with the coin evidence of site finds. Consideration is made of the probable methods employed in the striking of the coinage and a new mathematical method is invoked to yield a more accurate picture of the supply of coinage under the Carausian administration. A study of the metrology of the bronze coinage is made and this includes the illustration of the metrology with a three-dimensional surface using computer graphics. Consideration of the geographical distribution of the index-marked coinage has enabled a new interpretation of the location of the minting centres to be forwarded. The older historical sources have been reconsidered and important new interpretations have been made. Certain aspects of the coinage which relate to the history have been examined in the light of newly discovered coin types. The study involved the examination of approximately seven thousand specimens of the coinage from both public and private collections and excavations. . 1841716561 . Archaeopress paperback
