Nel primo vol., dedicato al Re Carlo Emanuele di Savoia, trovasi una stupenda carta geogr. della Sicilia inc. in rame ripieg. f.t. (cm. 29x36). Prima edizione di quest'opera importantissima sulle vicende della Sicilia, che molto raramente trovasi completa dei 3 vol. perché pubblicati a distanza di vari anni. Il primo vol. fu pubblicato dall'autore (deceduto nel 1724) e contiene la storia dai tempi più remoti fino al 1054; i vol. secondo e terzo, pubblicati postumi dal fratello Francesco, proseguono la narrazione rispettivamente fino al 1409 e 1713. "Giambattista Caruso, nato in Polizzi, fu celebre storico, letterato ed erudito...Nell'anno 1700 si portò a Parigi, ove fece conoscenza col celebre Mabillon, che gli ispirò il gusto per le investigazioni storiche, e gli consigliò di applicarsi alla patria storia.
