Scarce especially the "Extras." Not at AAS. OCLC locates issues from 1846 at only two libraries: LOC and Lib. Co. of Phila with the later the only institution listing this July 14 extra.<br /> <br /> Provenance: Copy of H.B. Chew Towsontown Md. Henry Banning Chew 1800 - 1866 was one of thirteen founding members of the Philomathean Society the University of Pennsylvania's first student organization. He went on to become a successful merchant. He married the daughter of Governor Charles Ridgely of Hampton Maryland. In 1921 the Chew family sold the land from his mansion to Goucher College. First Trade edition 1867 being the author's first book a touching story of a young child who's mother dies of scarlet fever. It was first aired in printed form to raise money for a charity bazaar and so impressed the novelist G. J. Whyte-Melville that he advised that it should be published. VG Book - mild general shelf wear to cloth - mainly colour rubbing no cracks to original pale yellow end papers light foxing to reverse of free end papers and last printed page no previous owner name or insc. occasional finger and general soiling to some margins binding generally sound but a little floppy due to glue to back strip failing.
