Mr. Towers speak forcefully for the contribution of women as musicians and composers in his article in "The Musician" of April May and June 1897. Following the article is an alphabetical list of women musicians. He also apologizes to the "hundreds of Women who have done and are still doing excellent work in the field of music all the world over whose names are absent from the following list." This pamphlet memorializes the article and is dedicated to Florence Sutro a gifted musician artist and lawyer in New York City Society. She created the National Federation of Women's Music Clubs and was president of the Woman's department of the Music Teachers National Association. She and her husband Theodore were advocates for women's suffrage. <br /> <br /> Sml. 8vo 30pp printed photo of Florence Sutro. Publishers printed blue paper wrappers title in blue on cover and advertisement for the Estey Piano Rooms on verso. Tipped in at the rear is a one page testimonial of Estey Piano Co by Mrs Sutro. Printed on the last page of text is "By way of proof of the onward march of women in the elysian field of music." and goes on to praise the works of Florence Sutro the president of the newly created Woman's Department of the Music Teachers National Association. Probably the rarest of the highly desirable Golliwogg series this one taking our characters to Paris Japan and Africa. This copy has considerable soilage on the boards which are illustrated paper pasted onto the boards. Shelfwear along edges and corners. Original spine band survives with some wear by tips and rubbing along gutters. Interior tight. Wood engraved frontispiece title vignette and 11 plates. Lady Florence the Marquis of Queensberry's daughter journeyed to Patagonia and to South Africa the Land of Misfortune. She traveled to South America because she was suffering from social ennui. In this title the author reels off a single dinner menu of guanaco-head soup a guanaco is a sort of llama; ostrich and describes a hartebeest chase of the veld. The Times in its obituary rather sadly concluded that Lady Florence Dixie would best be remembered as a "somewhat peculiar woman." Four pages of adverts at rear. Se was an English novelist that drew distinction between her stories for childre and her stories about children Misunderstood is the latter and was a very successful book one which is known for its saddening end and the tale of father and son.
