First edition. Bound in the publisher's cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. The third volume of 'The Negro Handbook' with two previous volumes published in 1942 and 1944. Written by Florence Murray an American editor and journalist who strived to write about her own experiences as a black female editor and create a current reference work for newspaper reporters. Through this work Murray aimed to compile a convenient source of reference on current facts and figures about black Americans living in post-war America intended for the use of newspaper reporters and researchers. In this work Murray presents her view of the role of the African-American in World War Two as well as chapters on population civil rights health statistics education crime housing sports and much more. Bound in the publisher's cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally excellent with light shelf wear and few marks. A little rubbing to spine head and tail. Age toning to endpapers. Dust wrapper is sound wth chipping to the extremities with a little loss to the backstrip and front panel head and heavier loss to the rear panel. Small tears to flyleaves. Sunning to the backstrip.
