1983144573Paris: Gaumont 1983. Two vintage borderless photographs of director Andrzej Wajda on the set of the 1983 Polish-French film. With holograph annotations on the verso.

Based on the 1929 play "The Danton Case" by Polish writer Stanislawa Przybyszewska. Set in 1793 Georges Danton has returned to Paris from his solitary residence in the countryside just as the Committee for Public Safety under the direction of Maximilien Robespierre his former ally begins a massive series of executions. Danton meets his fate before a revolutionary tribunal and is eventually sent to the guillotine. The film drew connections between the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution and the contemporary Polish "solidarity" movement against the Soviet-backed Polish government.

Shot on location in France.

7 x 5 inches. 19245080bdNew York: Benziger Brothers 1924. Octavo green illustrated cloth hardcover 224 pp. Good with edgewear that includes fraying to edges of spine penny sized chip to spine. Photographs gladly provided upon request. From story: Saturday afternoon at three o’clock on September the fifteenth is very likely to be hot in the City of Washington. More likely to be hot than cool too if you are a boy of fifteen years old and have not had your hair cut for over a month and are now sitting in the barber-chair actually going through the agony. Sometimes the clippers pull; the barber pushes your head this way and pokes it that way; hair gets down your back; a fly lights on the end of your nose and with your hands under the cloth how can you knock him off Of course you cannot -- he has to stay there as long as he wants because if you wiggle your head the barber will growl at you to keep still! Yes; it is just wonderful fun to have your hair cut when the thermometer registers around eighty-five degrees in the shade! If you do not believe it just ask Dan Reardon of Botolph High Washington D. C. as he sits there sweltering on this September fifteenth at three o’clock Saturday afternoon. But take the consequences if you ask him that’s all! No Dan Reardon was in no humor to have anybody begin teasing him at that moment you may be sure! Benziger Brothers, 1924. hardcover books
