23101Presumably Darrigle nr Portlaw Ireland 15 November 1880. For Private Circulation only Unpublished poem four pages 8vo not bound sl. water affected ow good condition fourteen verses on three pages. First verse; "You may boast of your spins over Aylesbury Vale; You may brag of your gallops from Ranksboro' gorse; Of your Greatwood or Waterloo tell a fine tale; Of your deeds in the shires you may talk yourselves hoars: They are well in their way: but we all of us say There is nothing can equal our Darrigle Day". Last Verse: "This fair day was o'ershadow'd by one only cloud - Her italic absence whose name's only uttered to bless Whose presence is sunshine. May the Bard be allowed For this once to call her our dear Marchioness; For we all of us say she's the one missing ray Was wanting to brighten our Darrigle Day." In between these verses is described a racy fox-hunt. This leaflet was extracted from an album put together a by a Wellesley Paget RHA.No other copy traced; nor publication. 24487‘Board of Agriculture / Feb 26. 1801’. See his entry in the Oxford DNB. 2pp 4to. In good condition with thin neat strip from windowpane mount adhering at edges. Folded for postage. Signed ‘Carrington’ and addressed to ‘Robert Sparrow Esq.’ He has received Sparrow’s letter and informs him that ‘the Bill is yet to be brought into the House of Lords for the improvement of waste land’. All that has been done is the instructing of ‘the Committee appointed on account of the dearth of Provisions to take into immediate consideration the subject of Enclosures in general & of waste lands in particular.’ However important the point which Sparrow mentions may be ‘for a separate enquiry’ it ‘does not come within the limits of these instructions nor could it be perhaps proper to mix any other subject with that above mentioned.’ Note: Enclosures "It gained pace in the 18th century before really accelerating as a result of the General Enclosure Act of 1801. This law enabled landowners - and notably nouveau riche farmers - to enclose their land without a prior Parliamentary act as had previously been the case." ‘Board of Agriculture / Feb 26. 1801’. unknown

Cartouche "Appears in the bottom right in a crumbling stone block to the right of which are a pair of barrels and a fishing smack. There is a single scale line towards the top left. Outside the border across the top is the imprint "Engrav'd for Moore's News. at the top on both sides is a small decorative motif the central part of which is a mermaid blowing a horn. Across the bottom is a cannon at the left joined by a chain to a helmet in the centre joined by another chain to a vignette of cannon balls and ramming tools etc. at the right. London. 1780 unknown
