L'artiste belge encore relativement méconnu a été l'un des fondateurs de l'association d'artistes De Jonge Belgische Schilderkunst et a été membre du groupe Kunst van Heden. Elle personnifie une transition essentielle dans l'art moderne : celle de la figuration à l'abstraction. Au départ, Bonnet peint dans un style animiste - en opposition au surréalisme naissant - mais après 1950, elle dépouille son travail d'un certain sentimentalisme et développe une forme extrêmement personnelle de peinture abstraite. Au mieux, accompagne-t-on une ?uvre dont les objets donnés ne sont que l'expression provisoire. L'?uvre donc convoque ce temps nécessaire que les Grecs nomment Kairos et, pour le dire, des gestes artistiques d'une grande modestie, répétés inlassablement mais jamais à l'identique avec des matériaux d'une extraordinaire pauvreté comme si tout, ici, ne tenait qu'à un fil éternellement noué puis dénoué. The point of departure of the oeuvre of Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven is the human brain with its analytical and irrational potential in terms of perception and cognizance. Van Kerckhoven's logic is consistently counteracted by absurdity or mental disruptions, and the analytical is joined with the mystical without viewing this as a contradiction. Van Kerckhoven began dealing with research on artificial intelligence early on, whereby visual languages dominated that are influenced by scientific imaging processes: diagrams, graphic animations, and text-image schemes. She used digital on par with analog forms of expression as early as the 1980s and transferred the digitally constructed worlds into space. The artist uses primarily female bodies like ?selfies? as protagonists in drawings, paintings, prints, and films.
