Prima edizione di questa importante monografia del Raimondi (Milano, 1824 -San Pedro de Pacasmayo, 1890) sulle ricchezze minerali del Perù, catalogo ragionato di 652 varietà di minerali presenti nella nazione sudamericana. Il grande viaggiatore, scienziato e patriota milanese, in seguito alla sua partecipazione alla difesa di Roma, nel 1849, nelle schiere di Mameli e di Manara, dovette esulare, e, all'inizio del 1850, si imbarcò alla volta del Perù. Juan Antonio Pezet 1809-1879 was President of Peru during the Spanish-Peruvian -Chilean war over the Chincha Islands which contained vast deposits of Guano. He was forced to flee to Europe when his treaty with the Spanish was found wanting.
