Thank-you Letter From Mosquera The Hero of Colombia 1866. Tomas Cipriano de Mosquera 1798-1878 Colombian general and statesman served in the War of Independence attracting the attention of Bolivar and went on to serve in high political office: Senator Governor Minister to England and several different terms as President of the Republic his last one commencing in 1866 the year of this letter. Despite his periods of anticlerical dictatorship he became increasingly liberal and instituted numerous reforms. He promoted the country's material growth throughout his long career and was the author of various military political and historical works. Referring to this letter Col. Pellet writes "You will probably have the only autograph of his which exists in the States outside of the State Department in Washington."<br/><br/>THE RARE AUTOGRAPH OF AN IMPORTANT FIGURE IN SOUTH AMERICAN HISTORY. unknown books
