Bits of clear tape at each top corner. Several short openings to periphery, the longest being 1.75" to left side of bottom edge. Possible faint doodling on female dancer's white dress and elsewhere - or perhaps it is the work of the artist? (additional photos available.) Edizione originale (la prima edizione si distingue dalla prima per il fatto di recare la data del luglio 1817, mentre la seconda è dell'agosto dello stesso anno) di questo studio sullo sviluppo politico dell'epoca nel Sud America, e nel Brasile in particolare, con un giudizio assai favorevole espresso sull'operato di Re Joâo VI (Giovanni VI) del Portogallo come sovrano del Brasile. Cenni specifici sono riservati allo stato del Pernambuco (pp. 7-46), all'Argentina e a Buenos Aires (pp. 47-52), al "Royaume de Terre-Ferme", ossia la parte settentrionale del Sud America sotto la dominazione spagnola, specialmente la Colombia ed il Venezuela (pp. 52 e sgg.), con acuti rilievi sui movimenti indipendentistici dei singoli stati, su Simon Bolivar, etc. Sono presenti anche cenni relativi al Messico, al Cile, all'Uruguay e a Montevideo, alla Florida, ad Haiti. L'abate de Pradt (Allanches, Saint Elour, Auvergne, 1759-1837), fecondo scrittore politico, Deputato agli Stati Generali nel 1789, quando venne redatta la Costituzione civile del clero, fu tra gli ecclesiastici che si rifiutarono di giurare fedeltà alla costituzione, preferendo emigrare. Tornato in patria nel 1800, nel 1804 divenne cappellano ed elemosiniere di Napoleone e, nel 1805, Vescovo di Poitiers. Arcivescovo di Malines sino al 1816, nel 1807 fece parte della delegazione francese che, a Bayonne, costrinse Carlo IV di Spagna e il figlio Ferdinando a rinunciare al trono in favore di Giuseppe Bonaparte. Ambasciatore a Varsavia nel 1812, fu il principale artefice del concordato di Fontainebleu del 25 gennaio 1813, che ridusse di fatto il pontefice Pio VII al rango di un semplice cappellano imperiale. Nel 1815, al ritorno dei Borbone, si collocò con su posizioni liberali nello schieramento politico francese. Sul de Pradt, cfr.
