14794Original vintage Gelatin silver print black and white press photo measuring 9 x 7" and dated September 26 1947. President Juan Peron signed a decree at the time granting women in Argentina the rights to vote and to obtain legal divorces. The photo depicts a throng of 10000 excited Argentinians celebrating at the Presidential Palace in Buenos Aires following the announcement. The decree was a major step forward in Argentinian women gaining legal equality that could protect them from the social conservatism that had denied them key rights within their homes and marriages in prior decades. Argentinian woman suffrage was a project promoted ardently by first Lady Eva Peron who advocated for women domestically and internationally and who founded and remained an influential member of the Peronist Women's Party until her death in 1952. The photo captures a thrilling collective moment in the modern woman rights movement. Wire photos are different than traditional photographic prints! This print is the result of what used to be breakthrough technology now completely obsolete that allowed a photographic image to be scanned transmitted over "the wire" and then printed at the receiving location. These are the originals that then were printed in newspapers across the country to illustrate the Newspaper story. In very good condition. unknown books

181537088Buenos Ayres: Imprenta de Niños Expòsitos 1815. First edition. About very good with chipped edges barely touching first letter of text on a few lines leaf browned. Broadside. 4to. The Cabildo retook control as stated in this document which Zinny dates to 16 April 1815. On the prior day Carlos MarÃa de Alvear who'd been appointed to replace his uncle Posadas as Supreme Director on January 9 1815 at the age of 25 resigned under pressure due to a mutiny among his troops. Alvear never had much support from the countryside nor from his troops his negotations with Artigas failed and his eventual attempt at seeking British intervention led to his exile.
