"On the last day of May1863 in company with my father I left Fifth Avenue for Alaska." and so begins the author's four month journey by rail steamer wagon and horseback for well over 12000 miles with his famous father across America. Included are visits to and observations of Salt Lake the Mormons San Fransico and her markets buildings and the Chinese Quarter Yosemite Valley Astoria Vancouver's Island and of course on to Alaska and return.
