This vintage Air Canada flight attendant training manual was issued to new-hire flight attendants who were required to study it before arriving at Training School in Montreal for 5.5 weeks of tutelage under Miss Anna Johnson and her team of instructors. The table of contents includes forty-seven topics such as Air Canada Base, Aircraft Numbers, Berkeley Hotel (where trainees stayed while in Montreal), City Codes, IATA, Loading Bridge, Personal Appearance, Posting to Base, Salary, Vocabulary, Wardrobe, and much more. 178 pages with several black and white reproductions of photos, maps, and drawings. Undated but we estimate this copy was printed circa 1973. Apparently the prior owner studied quite hard as this copy is heavily worn, contains many markings, and its red cirlox binding has mostly broken away, thus the pages are barely holding on. That said, this copy is a wonderful memento of the days when flying was so much more fun - and security was so much less. Nostalgic reading for anyone who served with Air Canada in decades past, and a pleasant throwback for modern-day flight attendant recruits. Book
Consists of title page followed by fourteen one-sided recipe pages of graduated length. Spiral binding makes this very handy to use. "Strawberry shortcake for dessert, hot biscuits with marmalade for afternoon tea, apple pudding or cherry roll for dinner, coffee cake with our breakfast coffee - all these things are so easy to make providing we have our basic or foundation recipe." - Foreword. Unmarked with moderate wear. A tidy vintage copy. Driver Q214.1 Book

56 pages. Generously illustrated in colour and black and white. Oblong 14 x 19cm. A fascinating cookbook apparently intended for purchasers of Kelvinator refrigerators which were surely an item found only in wealthier Canadian kitchens, given that this book was printed in the depths of the great depression. Includes instructions on the operation and care of the refrigerator (including twice-yearly oilings of the motor bearings!) Page 56 includes a photo of the impressive Kelvinator factory in London, Ontario. Front perforated book order form missing. Store ink stamp inside back cover otherwise unmarked. Above-average wear and soiling with evidence of exposure to moisture. Binding intact. Despite its deficiencies, a worthy copy of this vintage Canadian cookbook. Driver O814.1 Book
[1], iv-xvii, [1], 3-655 pages. Bibliography. Index. "Authorized by the Canadian General Council as the Handbook of the Boy Scouts Association in Canada, and published for the Canadian General Council." - title page. Many black and white illustrations in text, including an intriguing Thanks Badge on page 83 which consists of ' a Swastika with a fleur-de-lis superimposed.' Despite its many shortcomings, a worthy and uncommon reference copy of this vintage first Canadian edition. Spadoni & Donnelly 465. Book
248 pages. Signed and inscribed by author upon front free endpaper. "Rosemary writes about the people and events she has known and witnessed - from her childhood in Jamaica and the family life that helped to shape her early views of life, to her rise within Canada's social fabric, as a politician and a concerned citizen... Filled with provocative statements about racism in Canada, the rights of women, education, the political process, abortion and a host of other issues at the heart of Canada's development as a free and democratic country." - from dust jacket. Clean and unmarked with very light wear. An excellent copy. Book
48 pages. Undated but probably circa 1942 as this is clearly a WWII-era publication intended to provide ideas for readers to slash their requirement for wool, "106 pounds of which is needed to outfit the average solder with uniform, blankets, etc., in his first year." - back cover. Profusely illustrated with black and white illustrations and reproductions of photos. "Speed up the day of Victory! Give your old garments a new life... and save buying new. Enlist in the fabric conservation programme - reclaim every inch of usable material. Each inch saved means more strength for our own fighting forces. Every yard of fabric gained means a greater supply for the United Nations. Conservation of material is a wartime responsibility of every Canadian." - front cover. "The principal pattern companies have collaborated to provide practical working patterns for making weary wardrobes into Victory garments. In the following pages are specific suggestions for re-modelling. Let's tune up our old sewing machines, get out our sewing kits, and enjoy the miracle of making old things new." - page 1. "Eat It Up, Wear It Out, Make It Do - Take Care of What You Have." - back cover. A sound example of this fascinating and informative Canadian WWII memento from the home front. Book
