Edouard-Charles Victurnien Colbert (1758-1820) was a titled French naval officer who visited the United States in the 1790s. Although he spent a good deal of time in Philadelphia, he also traveled throughout much of Pennsylvania and New York and up to Quebec. Like several other wealthy visitors from abroad, Colbert published in 1798 a record of his experiences in America. Republished in 1935 it includes many paintings by him of scenes encountered.
