196895496Lincoln Nebraska October 26 1968. 1968. Fine. - Over 360 words typed on 11 inch high by 8-1/2 inch wide creamy white paper. Clayton Yeutter who later oversaw trade negotiations with Canada under Ronald Reagan thanks Spiro Agnew's chief of staff Arthur Sohmer for "the gracious invitation to visit you during my tenure at the Foreign Service Institute" though he declines since Sohmer will likely be very busy with his work for the Vice Presidential candidate in the final days of the Presidential campaign. Yeutter writes of having done some "farm policy work for Mr. Nixon" earlier and comments that the campaign appears to have a comfortable lead though he's concerned about the "Wallace movement" "We can do without a third party in this country and particularly without one that has the fascist trimmings of the American Freedom Party". Considering his later negotiations which brought about NAFTA it is interesting that Yeutter goes on to comment on how difficult it was to intensely study Spanish for 12 to 14 hours a day while at the FSI. Signed "Clayton". Folded horizontally and vertically for mailing else fine with the original mailing envelope bearing a Franklin D. Roosevelt U.S. postage stamp and with Sohmer's "Executive Department" address re-routed to his home. <p>The American lawyer Clayton Yeutter 1930-2017 was a farmer who served as the U.S. trade representative under Ronald Reagan. Yeutter was involved in the multilateral trade negotiations with Uruguay which resulted in creation of the World Trade Organization. He oversaw the negotiations which led to the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement and subsequently led to further negotiations with Mexico resulting in NAFTA. Yeutter went on to serve as Agriculture Secretary under President George H.W. Bush. Lincoln, Nebraska, October 26, 1968. unknown

198283700782Winnipeg Manitoba Canada: Ad hoc Winnipeg Committee of Unemployed Youth and Veterans of the Great Depression 1982. Book. Very Good. Paperback. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 72 pages. Circa 1982-83. Perhaps the first book to be written by workers on the question of Canada's entering the second depression. Their dismay at finding another generation of young families faced with the same prospects of unemployment has prompted them to compile an outline of world and national development leading to recurring crises in private enterprise systems. The authors have used a historical materialist approach in attempting to make the history and background of depressions understandable to the average working class reader. Gift greetings inside front cover else clean and unmarked. Light wear. Very nice copy. (Ad hoc) Winnipeg Committee of Unemployed Youth and Veterans of the Great Depression Paperback
