Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island were likewise ceded after the Seven Years' War in 1755. In 1848 Nova Scotia became the first colony in British North America and in the British Empire. The content of the population and household questionnaire covered name, sex, age, marital status, relationship to "head" of household, and the structural type and tenure of dwelling.
