Most of the newspaper concerns the murder of Winfield Scott Goss by William Udderzook following their involvement in insurance fraud. Udderzook's conviction rested on the novel use of a photograph to establish the identify of the victim. The newspaper recounts the details of the case as well as the execution of Udderzook. Also contains local news and advertisements. Very scarce. Bound with two metal screws with label for Buchan Patent Lock Washers inside of rear cover. Very Good lacking a 2" patch of cloth rear cover at spine edge wear and light soiling. Published 1929 Mar. 1 "This book correct to date as shown below" with additional dates in ink of 1930 Apr. 1 and 1930 July 1. Several pages with ink corrections deletions and additions. Manuscript in pencil verso of initial page. Two names in manuscript ink L.E. Bower 1/4/40 and C. A. Pennington 8/24. These books were a central reference for operational planning maintenance and engineering. The detailed information helped management ensure efficiency safety and standardization across their fleet. The C.C.C. & St. Louis Railway commonly known as the "Big Four Railroad" was formed on June 30 1889 through the merger of several smaller lines. Each page contains work in pencil beginning with basic shapes and letters and concluding with several pages of landscapes and other scenes. From the 8th leaf onward they are dated from April to June 1876 and then 2 from Nov. possibly 1879. In Good Condition: remains of marbled paper along spine possible old repair; cover is soiled; loss at edges; lacking final leaf; chipping to edges of tissue paper; otherwise clean and solid. paperback

18950121261895. Paper. Fair. No Binding. About 4.5 X 8.5 inches with the upper-right corner damaged and darkened. Very mild wear otherwise. This scarce billhead is from E.S. Levy & Co. located at Nos. 2213 & 2215 Market Street in Galveston Texas. The upper-left corner displays a nice graphic of the Levy family coat-of-arms--two griffins gryphons superimposed with a shield displaying a crown and the letter L. The sale was for a suit to Robert Smith for $15 on June 3 1895. Payment appears to have been received Jul 1 1895 as indicated by a red-ink stamp top-right corner near the damaged area and marked Paid in pencil. Abraham Levy started the business with a partner in 1877 Levy & Wells. After his death two years later in 1879 his son Edward S. Levy took over and renamed the company E.S. Levy & Co. The company endured 102 years closing its doors in 1979. unknown

The Union Benevolent Association was established in 1831 to provide assistance to Philadelphia residents by lending stoves to help heat their homes during a harsh winter along with wood and coal. The intention was to help the "worthy poor" without regard for religion or race. The activities of the organization have evolved since 1831; today it provides grants to projects to fight poverty. This report contains the constitution and by-laws of the Union Benevolent Association as well as detailed data about the people with whom the association had worked in the previous year. The male officers of the Association are listed; none of the members of the Ladies' Board of Managers are named although the majority of the report is theirs. Scarce. In Very Good Condition: wrapper is lightly soiled; lower corner of front wrapper creased; lower corner of title page lightly soiled; minor damage at lower edge of back wrapper and final pages; otherwise clean and tight. 21613Advertising handbill approximately 8.5 x 5.5 inches illustrated with a wonderful or not depending on your point of view image of "A Flea Magnified." Some staining old folding creases. Joseph Fusch trademarked his Eureka Insect Exterminator--guaranteed to kill fleas flies mosquitoes bed bugs ants moths lice and cockroaches without harm to people or animals--in 1901. Based on the address on this handbill we believe it dates to 1902-1903. By 1915 the product name had been changed to Eureka Insect Killer. The back of the handbill offers "some valuable suggestions and recipes worth saving" which could also be found on each can of Eureka Insect Exterminator. While ridding yourself of pests you could also learn how to sooth your eczema cure your horses of colic and make your own baking powder among other things. unknown
