Surveyor General Boyd reports his opinion as to the extent of the claim of C. J. B. Floriau claim in the South Eastern Land District of Louisiana as made by A. F. Rightor in 1839. Traces the claim to its origins in 1755 and subsequent grant in 1763 and discusses relevant legal aspects of the land grant vis a vis the Treaty of Fountainebleau the cessation of Louisiana to the United States in 1805 and related acts as well as Supreme Court Decisions. The report is acknowledged by General Land Office Commissioner John Wilson who furthers the matter stating in part: "The instigators of this bill before Congress have no other foundation for their demand but the fraudulent and incorrect survey by Rightor This Rightor a few years later was deprived of his commission as deputy surveyor for the district of Louisiana in consequence of repeated frauds in his official conduct. Beale was a sailor solder and hero of the Mexican War explorer and Indian superintendent who shared friendship and adventures with John C. Fremont Kit Carson and Ulysses S. Grant among others. He helped charter a new more humanitarian policy toward native Americans in the 1850s supervised the construction of a transcontinental wagon road and experimented with the use of camels in the Southwest. The prospectus says of this volume: "While the book constitutes an objective appraisal of Beale and the time in which he lived the authors succeed in presenting much more than a dry tabulation of facts.
