On his voyage back to England his ship was taken over by French pirates and he was taken prisoner for a year until he returned to England in 1696. An inscription has been written on the front flyleaf by the author "'The Times' with compliments of the writer". Some pencilled marks in text which is lightly toned with occasional small toned spots. Josiah Staunton Moore 1843-1913 was a Private in Company B of the 15th Virginia Regiment in the Civil War. He was captured at Five Forks on April 1 1865.
