Gilt ruled gray cloth gilt lettering on front cover gilt and red illustration of Iron Brigade medal on rear cover 8vo 50 pp. Illusttrated with photographs. Memorial of Brig. General Rufus Dawes 1838-1899 who rose to command of the Iron Brigade during the Civil War. This regiment was composed of the 6th Wisconsin 7th Wisconsin 2nd Wisconsin 19th Indiana and later the 24th Michigan. The Iron Brigade fought in nearly all the great battles in the east that the Army of the Potomac was engaged in from Second Bull Run to the Petersburg campaign and had an instrumental roll at Gettysburg. Book consists of a funeral address by Rev. William Roe an address by one of Dawes' sons and an address by Dawes presented to the Society of the Army of the Tennessee in 1881. Offered "as is" with any faults. NOTE: SOME GRAVURES MISSING. <br/><br/>This peculiar work was included in the Library of the Woman's Building of the World's Columbian Exposition. The WCE inspired the female employees of Kane County Illinois to create this testimonial to the progressivism of the Kane County Government in employing women. Funds were raised with an elaborate celebration of the dedication of the new County Court House September 30 1892. The previous court house had burned down. This work recounts how the women employees defied the smoke and flames while feeding the paperwork into the vault. Not in Dybwad's bibliography of the World's Columbian Exposition .
