1808100573<p>Pamphlet 8vo paperbound 16 pp. Partially disbound but still in tact. Normal aging and browning with some chips and folds at the extremities. Also slight fold at the center and early owner’s signature on title page. About very good. Very interesting pamphlet prepared during the Madison administration that takes a look at the challenges facing a new country. For the most part the report addresses the belligerent acts of England and France prior to the War of 1812. The report also challenges the legality of the British blockade and the taking of our ships on the high seas. Importantly it points out that France is no better than the English in this respect and that it would be hard to justify war against one without the same treatment of the other. However the authors were also very realistic about going to war with both England and France who were "two of the most powerful nations in the world". The report recommends that we not submit to French and English legal rationalizations for their actions and that we not allow their ships into our ports. Otherwise unmarked clean and sound. Begins with Volume I Number 1 September 25 1913 and runs through Volume I Number 26 March 19 1814 followed by Addenda. Sabin 1260. Published for just two years this scarce periodical offers a weekly compilation of "domestic news from every part of the continent" as well as reports on financial and legal matters foreign policy and government documents and reports containing a wealth of information and relating to the War of 1812. The Reform Convention of Maryland assembled to reform the state constitution honored Mr. Webster for his role in the Compromise of 1850. This pamphlet contains Webster's address that evening as well as the toasts and speeches by some of Maryland's most prominent men of the day. The dinner was held at Walton's City Hotel and Mr. And Mrs. Webster took lodgings at Mrs. Green's opposite the State House. Printed front cover sewn binding. Edition limited to 100 copies this no. 81; 4½" x 4¾" pp. 32; illustrated throughout; fine in gray paper over boards printed paper label on upper cover; fine. "This edition of the Bad Sparrow is a digitally printed codex version of the first edition a letterpress printed scroll measuring nine inches high and twenty-five feet in length. It is printed on Mohawk Superfine and the cover paper is made by Twinrocker." The first edition from which this was taken "was printed with photopolymer plates and pochoir then hand colored. The paper was Okawara and the typeface is Palatino. All work was executed at the University of lowa Center for the Book. Special thanks to Julla Leonard Sara Langworthy and Sara Sauers for guidance and inspiration. In a variable edition of 5" from the colophon of the original edition. Surprisingly only Iowa in OCLC. Wilkinson was believed to be Aaron Burr's primary co-conspirator in an alleged scheme the details of which are still disputes to detach the Western states and the Louisiana Territory from the Union and establish a new nation. Issued several years in advance of the actual second part of his Memoirs published in 1816 this volume was Wilkinson's attempt to defend himself against the "torrent of vilification" and "tempest of persecution" he experienced when the scandal broke. It was first issued in 1810 under the title "Memoirs of General Wilkinson Volume II" then again in 1811 with an added "Burr's Conspiracy Exposed" title page and additional one-page "Advertisement" relating the reasons for publishing this volume in advance of the completed Memoirs. This copy has only the "Burr's Conspiracy" title page not the half-tile identifying it as Memoirs of General Willkinson Volume II but there is faint evidence that the page was there and removed. Advertising leaf dated May 1 1811 present. 8vo pp. 4 3-18 3-99 136. Bound in quarter red leather and marbled boards. Spine leather damaged has a scorched appearance possibly oxidation with the original gilt titles Wilkinson's Memoirs" and "Burr's Conspiracy" just barely visible. Otherwise in very good condition with untrimmed page edges sound binding and clean text. Penciled note about the scarcity of the work on verso of front free endpaper facing title page. This work features José Gaspar known by his nickname Gasparilla supposedly lived c. 1756 1821 was a purported Spanish pirate the "last of the Buccaneers" who is claimed to have raided the west coast of Florida during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The volume shows light external age/wear and is solidly bound with clean pages. The book measures approximately 5 1/2" x 7 3/4" and contains 311 pages plus 3 pages of publisher's advertisements.
