A rather unique example of the early photographic work of "Mr. Conservative" the Republican libertarian sympathizer known both for his 1964 presidential campaign against Lyndon B. Johnson and for his opposition to the Christian right's takeover of the party especially on issues like gay rights and abortion. The end sheets show faint foxing near the hinges due to a reaction with the glue used in binding. In a very good unclipped dust jacket with very shallow chipping at the upper edge of the spine area and with light rubbing and wear at the fore corners of the panels. One of the volumes in the American Guide Series which was originally scheduled to be released in January of 1938 but was delayed until September 1941. Schoyer- 41 The book was not issued with a fold-out map. Instead there are sectional maps at the end of the text of the book with transportation maps on the front and rear end papers. 447 pages including an index maps as stated above a list of consultants bibliography chronology text and 8 sections of black and white photographs. After a year in that position he resigned to become most famously known as the first President of Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America MPPDA which under his guidance published a blacklist of actors and workers studios should not hire inserted moral clauses into actors' contracts and published an informal list of suggested guidelines for film producers. Irving Peress July 31 1917 - November 13 2014 was a New York City dentist who became a primary target for investigation of alleged communist leanings during the 1954 Army-McCarthy hearings. In October 1953 Peress was promoted to Major even though his commanding officer had recommended that Peress be separated from the military because of suspicions stemming from his questionnaire answers.The Army later described it as a "readjustment in rank" made to comply with the Doctors' Draft Act a recent law. McCarthy wrote a letter to Secretary of the Army Robert T. Stevens calling for Peress to be court-martialed. He called for an investigation into the Army's handling of Peress' commissioning and promotion. Stevens believed that Peress' refusals to answer the Committee's questions did not provide grounds for court-martial and approved Peress' discharge on February 2. that required that the rank of military medical professionals reflect their level of experience. Its like life itself- there is much very wholesome and some to be taken in moderation and only at certain times. However I want you to read pages 187 to 206 especially about Aunt Sallie on page 189. Show it to her too and if she would like one of the books I'll get you one to give her. She is a great individual. Affectionately W.H.H.". Pages 187- 206 contain the chapter written by Will H. Hays and is titled "I Learned a Lot from the Folks Back Home". He was wrong about the citation it begins on page 199. Will Hays managed Warren G.
