Presentation Copy- tipped in page at front states -"Presented with the Compliments of The American Institute to Will H. Hays on the Occasion of Its Centenary Dinner Grand Ball Room Waldorf Astoria March 21 1928". Will H. Hays in addition to authoring the chapter in this book on "Motion Pictures" also managed Warren G. Harding's successful campaign for the Presidency of the U.S. and was subsequently appointed Postmaster General. After a year in that position he resigned to become most famously known as the first President of Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America MPPDA which under his guidance published a blacklist of actors and workers studios should not hire inserted moral clauses into actors' contracts and published an informal list of suggested guidelines for film producers. He was head of MPPDA at the time of this publication. Very Good lacking the dustjacket spine titles faded yet still legible rear hinge cracking. Original red cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Spinelightly sunned a bit of scattered foxing attractive engraved bookplate identifying the owner simply as "Alexandra" on the front pastedown. Cameron traveled extensively and generally alone publishing books on Africa South America Mexico and the South Seas among others. Although she has been described by some critics as more of a globetrotting tourist than an explorer see Robinson p. 177 and the DNB she was elected to membership in the Royal Geographical Society in 1913 suggesting her contemporaries at least felt otherwise. The club has hosted the River Oaks International Tennis Tournament since 1931. Often called the "Classiest Club In Houston" River Oaks is known for its philanthropic and community-leading membership and its beautiful views. It is extremely exclusive. It is located at 1600 River Oaks Boulevard Houston TX 77019. River Oaks Country Club was founded in 1923 in the River Oaks neighborhood in Houston. Prominent architect John F. Staub was hired to design the original two-story Spanish revival clubhouse. The club house was built south of the golf course that was designed by Donald Ross. The current clubhouse was built in the 1950s on the same site as the original. River Oaks' golf course was the venue for the PGA Tour's Western Open in 1940 and the Houston Open in 1937 1938 and 1946. River Oaks has been home to the River Oaks International Tennis Tournament since 1931. The tournament is the oldest in the country to still be played at its original site in the original stadium. On May 8 2007 the United States Tennis Association awarded River Oaks the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships starting in 2008 taking over the event from Westside Tennis Club. Other cities that competed for the event were Atlanta Winston-Salem North Carolina and Ponte Vedra Beach Florida. The tournament purse is $415000 with a winner's share of $65850. The new venue for the clay court championships was to feature American red clay courts that were installed in 2005 with a stadium capacity of 3000. Preface by the Comte de Paris who said that this editon owed a great deal to Genral Bavin friend of France and former Ambassador of the United States. The Prince de Joinville was the third son of King Louis-Philippe. This book was designed by Neanine Fricker. The type was handset in Baskerville. The plates were made by Mansat Paris. The printing of the text and the illustrations was done on the presses of I. P.E. in Paris. The binding was ong by Prache de Franclieu at Choisy-le-ROi. One is still in its original binding; the other we have had rebound in new black textured cloth quite similar to the original with the original leather piece stamped with the owner's name pasted on the front cover. There are waterstains on the foreedge of many pieces in the rebound volume. The non-rebound volume has a waterstain on the front cover but none inside. It was bound professionally by J.G. Roberts & Co. of Boston and they provided an engraved Contents page which has the titles filled in by hand.
