There are 10 steel engraved full-page plates of New York towns and views and a brief sketch of all of the towns along the route to Oswego. An interesting advertisements promotes farms for sale priced from $15.00 to $40.00 an acre. A long list of hotels boarding houses and private families on or near the route of the New York Ontario and Western Railway is provided. "Money accruing from this sale of this is for the building of the Home for the Aged" states the title page. Recipes are not attributed but there is an excellent two-page description of the "Work of the Association" with names of the officers of the society and its goals. includes two tipped in recipes at the rear Mushroom Soup and Cheese Custard which is labeled as a "West India Recipe" and there is a third recipe written on a blank Baked Onions. A bit of foxing to a few pages previous owner's name in pencil to a few pages otherwise very good or better in decorated blue-gray cloth. Scarce. OCLC locates four copies; not in Brown or Cook. The exceptionally large and detailed color map is taken from the latest information supplied by the U.S. Coast Survey and includes the names of prominent residences along the Hudson historical landmarks Indian names etc. The text contains descriptions and illustrations of numerous sites identified on the map and also includes advertisements for hotels travel and local businesses in the Hudson Valley. Beautiful designed die-cut 8" x 6" butterfly as as a string-tied promotional sales catalog folds to 4" x 3" no pagination 16 includes covers. Black & white illustrations. This delightfully printed promotional catalogue for the millinery department at Hugh O'Neill's Dry Goods Store whose impressive building at Sixth Ave. & 21st St. was an impressive domed building now serving as condominiums. Noted for their inventive marketing catalogs and souvenir chromolithograph cards this one illustrates the many Victorian trimmed hats which could be purchased "at the lowest possible price" including: Bo Peep Misses Capulet Easter Hedrick Ormonde & Bon Ton bonnets as well as Virot Gypsy Queen and Reckless hats. Founded in 1870 the Irish-American O'Neill d. 1902 opened his distinctive store designed by Mortimer Merritt in 1887 and by 1892 employed 2500 people and added a fifth floor to his store. After his death the O'Neill store later merged with Adams Dry Goods and closed down in 1907. Minor wear to the extremities with minor loss to lower portion of the wings. A very good bright copy. Westervelt presented an original petition to Newburgh Lodge 309 asking if a new lodge could be organized in Newburgh “believing that the best interest of Masonry would be best subserved thereby.â€</p> <br /> <p>A charter was granted to Hudson River Lodge 607 on June 8 1866. Forty-six signatures are appended to the document. Many are designated “true†and a few are designated “non affiliatedâ€. David A. Scott was voted master; G. Frederick Wiltsie senior warden; Samuel Stanton junior warden and John Alsdorf as first secretary. </p> <br /> <p>John L. Westervelt 1826-after 1880 the petitioner was a silversmith whose specialty was repairing and replating Gorham objects. He married Catherine Gorham of New York.  “After the Lodge had been declared open the Master arose and on behalf of Bro. John L. Westervelt presented to the Lodge a full set of solid silver jewels for the use of the offices. The following resolution was then offered and adopted unanimously: Resolved That the thanks of this Lodge be and are hereby tendered to Brother John L. Westervelt for the very beautiful set of jewels which he has so generously presented to the Lodge.â€Â History of Hudson River Lodge.</p> <br /> <p>Charles Estabrook 1823-1900 bookstore owner and librarian at Newburgh Free Library signed as did Chancy M. Leonard mayor of Newburgh who died in 1874. Another jeweler and silversmith Thomas W. Purdy ca. 1830-after 1880 also signed. David A. This is a promotional by the railroad to encourage people to locate in Northern New Jersey due to crowded conditions in NYC. They promote that to build a home in Northern New Jersey and New York state is the way to go and point out the wonderful convenient and speedy service available to and from NYC via their railroad company. Provided are home plans showing that a three bedroom home to an eight bedroom home can be built for a low of $2000.00 to a high of $5000.00. Recommended counties in New Jersey are Bergen Passaic and Essex and Rockland County in New York. The railroad company provides most of the information for one to consider moving to the areas where expenses are considerably less there is room for growth and they can supply economic and regular transportation. In 1814 Columbia University Medical School merged into the College of Physicians and Surgeons a move that was made in an attempt to stymie what was then seen as a period of decline for the medical school. By the date of this report there was widespread feuding between professors and trustees. The Regents appointed a committee to visit the College and to make a report to the legislature on means of correcting the situation. This is their report! Stitched pamphlet and loose in cards in an open-ended cardboard sleeve with printed label. Closed end of cardboard sleeve loose small 20th-century bookplate. Lacks one plate another plate duplicated. Light soiling to view cards pamphlet moderately tanned. Good plus. A scarce Civil War-era set of view cards and descriptions of sights and geographical attractions along the Hudson River from New York to Glen's Falls. Other views include the Palisades from Yonkers West Point Hudson the Catskills Peekskill and a folding view of Albany. Each section of descriptive text in the pamphlet volume is accompanied by a corresponding colored view of the scene. Thomas Nelson & Sons began publishing this series in 1858 and continued to issue them into the early 1860s updating views as needed. All editions are scarce. <br> <br> This set with a duplicated view of Sing Sing to make up for lacking a plate showing a view of the entrance to the Highlands from Peekskill but also with an extra set of views of Niagara in a similar style issued by a Buffalo publisher. unknown books

The Tribune and Farmer advertised here is difficult to identify; OCLC records include similar titles in a sequence: New-York Tribune Farmer 1901-1912 Tribune Farmer 1913 The Rural New-Yorker 1878-1964 absorbed the Tribune Farmer in 1914. The typography suggests the 1880s or 1890s perhaps later. Apparently the broadside is unrecorded on OCLC. An attractive advertisement appropriate for exhibition.
