Very good.One would expect quite a bit of info about the fecundity of the San Joaquin Valley but in truth this pamphlet focuses almost exclusively on the scenic wonders around the Valley; Yosemite Mariposa Big Trees Calaveras Big Trees General Grant and Sequoia. Literally all of the illustrations are concerned with these or like places. In the center is a large panorama map of the area printed in orange and black. Distributor's stamp on one page. Printed on the recto only of a heavy card 4 3/8" x 3 3/8" with beveled edges.<br /> <br /> Born in Munich Simon Maier 1853-1931 migrated to the United States with his brother Joseph 1851-1905. Involved in the mining business in South Dakota for a time the brothers came to Los Angeles by way of San Francisco in 1877. Both established themselves as leaders in the business community: Simon as the owner of the Pacific Coast Beef and Provision Company the largest meatpacker west of Kansas City and Joseph as partner of the successful Maier & Zobelein Brewery. unknown

195577071Bakersfield California: Earl M. Price & Co 1955. Radioactivity anomaly map of a portion of Kern County California released March 15 1955 by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. Uranium was discovered in 1954 along the Kern River about 30 miles 50 km northeast of Bakersfield. Two mines the Kergon and the Miracle produced 189 tons of ore though the concentration was very low. The folding map measures 21 1/2" x 17" and is tipped into printed green paper wrappers 4" x 9 5/8" with some oxidation form the glue to one panel. The ink stamp of Orser's Uranium of Modesto California appears on the front panel. Some minor soiling and edgewear; otherwise very good. Scarce OCLC locates no holdings. Earl M. Price & Co unknown

Spine has a split between staples else Fine. The program evokes the promise of the California dream following the Depression and WWII. Ads for the Longbarn all-new Austin Motor Cars at the Egan Car Co. Dinah's Shack Derry's Feed and Fuel and John S. Wickett "the Atherton Realtor" among others evoke the impending affluence of the region. A prominent full-page ad for the Oakville Terrace subdivision "homes now being built or choose your own lot" is described as "highly restricted" presumably a reference to redlining designed to keep the new neighborhood exclusively white.
