Very Good. 8 pp. 6-3/4" x 5" <br/><br/>An anonymous publication commenting mostly unfavorably on the two Democratic candidates for US Congress James H. Barry and Superior Court Judge William T. Wallace in San Francisco. Wallace was a former California Supreme Court judge and the sitting Superior Court Judge. Apparently he lost the election and was appointed San Francisco's Police Commissioner. Barry owned the Star newspaper and was a tireless campaigner against corruption and for electoral reform. Barry's papers are at the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley BANC MSS 96/186 c. A rare publication documenting the political atmosphere of this election. No copies listed on OCLC. W. A. 195570567San Francisco: F.M. Nonaka & Co 1955. Wraps. Near fine. A small Japanese paper sample book issued by F.M. Nonaka & Co. in San Francisco circa 1955. The pocket-size booklet 4" x 6" contains eight samples with color variants for the final three and is bound with staples and a green paper spine in printed paper wrappers. In 1903 Frank Masakazu Nonaka 1885-1967 emigrated to America where he attended high school and business college. After 13 years with the Okada Company he established F.M. Nonaka & Company a successful import and export business located at 214 Front Street in San Francisco. The company ceased operations during the Second World War when Nonaka his wife Setsu and their daughters were forcibly evacuated from their home and then detained at the Topaz Relocation Center in Utah. In a display of resilience Nonaka returned to San Francisco after the war and revived his business in a new location: 655 Battery Street. He was naturalized in 1954 and was actively involved in several community organizations including the Japanese American Citizens League JACL and the Northern California Japanese Chamber of Commerce.
