A trade catalogue for the distilled products of Ben Burk Inc. the distillery more famous for their long-running Old Mr. Boston Bartender's Guide. The Guide first appeared with Repeal of Prohibition in 1934 though it was preceded by a number of printings of One Hundred Cocktails Some Old -- Some New and One Hundred and Twenty Cocktails Fizzes Punches Highballs Toddies and Long Drinks 1932 ff. So this trade catalogue is concurrent with the end of Prohibition and the beginnings of the famous cocktail guide. With promotional descriptions of eight spirits each with an 'actual size' image of the bottle. Some rubbing and staining to wrappers with some of the staining reaching the interior. Stiff card wrappers printed in red black and silver and with a de-bossed silver image of Mr. Boston himself. Near very good. Unrecorded. OCLC locates no copies; not in Noling. 1890187Various locations in Massachusetts 1890. Very good. 247pp. Small quarto. Late 19th-century tan cloth. Binding lightly worn and soiled. Stamps for the Engineering Department of the B. & M. R.R. on binding and endsheets. Minor soiling to contents. Written in a neat and legible hand. The Boston & Maine Railroad and the Eastern Railroad were both founded in 1836 and ran competing lines throughout the 19th century. The B. & M. acquired the Eastern in 1890 ending competition on the rail route from Boston to Portland. This volume describes more than 300 land transactions made by the Eastern and Boston & Maine Railroads primarily from the early operational years of the 1830s and 1840s. This volume appears to have been copied out neatly at a later date perhaps after the purchase of the Eastern by the B. & M. and includes transactions ranging from 1836 to 1894. It is indexed by town at the end. Entries include the sellers' names the bounds of the parcel the price paid and the date. The towns involved include Chelsea Everett Lynn Revere Saugus Swampscott Salem Beverly Rowley Hamilton Wenham Ipswich Newbury Newburyport and Salisbury. unknown books

Similar in appearance and presentation to the 1883 SKETCH BOOK of the Architectural Association of Boston perhaps intended to be a continuation of it. Most of the plates in the present set are charming sketches reproduced in albertype of late Gothic buildings of France and Spain drawn by several Boston architects. This is almost certainly the first printed Boston Athenæum exhibition catalogue. It lists over three hundred paintings by living artists e.g. Stuart Peale Sully G.S. Newton and others and deceased "Old Masters." Each listing includes the title of the painting and artist's name as well as that of the proprietor. Most of the living artists are American although many of the Old Masters are European. Though not dated this catalogue was printed sometime before 1835 the year in which Gilbert Stuart Newton noted as a living artist died. unknown books

The earlier issue includes a brief biography of Lucien Bonaparte and various political notices most importantly regarding the negotiations for the Louisiana Purchase its constitutional ramifications for the United States and the reluctance of Spain to recognize the sale of the territory by France to the U.S. News of the purchase had become public on Oct. 17. On Nov. 30 Spain formally delivered the colony to the French colonial prefect who transferred the territory to William Claiborne and Gen. Wilkinson the American commissioners on Dec. 20. The publisher produced only a very few books all issued in 1879. ~ Evident FIRST EDITION. A promotional cookbook featuring recipes that are brief if not altogether lacking in detail. The book is in service to Houghton & Dutton a dry goods specialist from Boston and the recipes are interspersed with descriptions of the shop's various departments crockery glassware millinery etc. In addition to the text descriptions there are advertisements throughout with varied typography but all hawking Houghton & Dutton. Susan G. Knight was also the author of a number of other works including one cookbook Tit-Bits How to prepare a nice dish at moderate expense Boston & New York 1865. A comparison of the two text would perhaps be of use. Some age-toning to text-block and wear to corners of some leaves. In printed yellow wrappers worn and soiled but whole. Unrecorded.
