No photographer place or date is noted and this is the photo used at the wiki site and listed in the U.S. Navy archives as from 1939 when the ship was undergoing sea trials. The Anderson saw extensive service in World War II for which she was awarded ten battle stars. Laid down to cardstock overall size 19 1/2" x 23" approx. A few small spots dirt shallow divots in the image a few dots of paste from old matte-mounting and some old silvering of the gelatin print at bottom margin visible in raking light. The War of Extermination known as Guerra a Muerte was a decree by Simon Bolivar authorizing acts of sabotage and murder against Spanish citizens in South America. This work includes conversations with El Libertador Simon Bolivar shortly before his death in 1830. Also includes descriptions of travel in Venezuela Colombia and parts of the Caribbean. The venerable Newburyport Marine Society was instituted in 1772 incorporated in 1777 and revised in 1830. This copy belonged to Capt. Charles W. Brown with his inscription and bookplate. Brown was admitted as a member in 1880 and has made some manuscript annotations such as "lost at sea Nov. 29 1884" in the list of members. Austin Jayne President" with the blue raised seal of the Society and their motto "Add to Charity Knowledge"; Interesting image with four separate scenes in the border an explorer with charts and maps a scene of shipwreck a Native American on shores and another view of what appears to be New York harbor; image Artwork by J. L. Winn Inc. Engraved by Morrison Moorfields London; New York Marine Society was a benevolent and highly respectable Society and is one of the oldest in the United States. The Charter was granted at New York on the twelfth day of April seventeen hundred and seventy signed by Cadwallader Colden Lieutenant-Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Province. It was founded by either principal inhabitants of the City of New York or masters of vessels sailing out of the port of New York for the purpose of improving maritime knowledge and for relieving indigent and distressed and the wives and orphan children of deceased masters of vessels; unexamined out of frame which still has the old label of Rover Lee & Clem successors to Max Jacoby Fine Art Publishers and Importers 104 & 106 William St. cor. John St. New York; some edge tips wear to frame and some foxing to image; very good condition overall and an interesting maritime and benevolent societies historical item. Very Good.
