Le 23 juin, le port de Boston est en vue..." C'est ainsi qu'après le débarquement des Alliés en Afrique du Nord en novembre 1942, de jeunes français découvrent l'Amérique. Les écoles d'aviation qui y tournent à plein régime vont leur permettre d'acquérir la formation professionnelle nécessaire à la remise sur pied de l'Armée de l'air et de l'Aéronautique navale. Douze années plus tard, au Canada, un pilote formé sur B-25 Mitchell raconte: "Le hic de l'affaire était quand même l'apprentissage de la panne au décollage, comme on doit l'enseigner à tout futur pilote de transport..." Dans cette nouvelle période, face à la menace que l'URSS fait peser sur les démocraties occidentales, le traité de l'Atlantique nord a été signé. Il faut créer de nombreuses unités aériennes et les Etats-Unis comme le Canada ont rouvert les portes de leurs écoles aux futurs pilotes et navigateurs français. Plus de 8000 jeunes aviateurs ou marins partent ainsi conquérir leurs ailes de pilotes en Amérique du Nord de 1942 à 1958. C'est un monde nouveau qui les accueille au sein duquel ils vont être remarquablement formés et instruits. C'est leur histoire que ce livre raconte...
