A collection of the best known poetical works of the Roman satirist Horace in the original Latin edited by Karl Hermann Weise. 'Odes' is a collection of four books of lyric poems by Horace originally published in 23 BC and 13 BC. The odes are written in an imitation of the short lyrical poems written by the Greek poets Sappho Pindar and Alcaeus. They cover a range of subjects including religion wine patriotism love friendship and morality. This particular version edited by Karl Hermann Weise is becoming uncommon. In a full vellum binding. Externally very smart with only a couple of small marks to the front board. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the first and last few pages.
