No dust jacket. 254pp. The story of the first expedition to climb the slopes of Everest which started the lengthy process towards eventual success thrity-two years later. Following the death of one member of the party and the retirement through illness of another, the bulk of the work of testing the mountain's defences was left to two men, George Mallory and Guy Bullock.

Bella legatura artigianale coeva in piena pelle con stemma araldico in oro al frontespizio entro cornice in oro "Nave che fluttua sul mare" e sotto il motto "Nil Amanti Difficile". Dorso a 5 nerve con titolo e fregi a secco ai tasselli. Difetto alla cerniera anteriore e qualche segno del tempo al dorso. All'interno in ottime condizioni di conservazione. Celebre racconto di viaggio dei territori che vanno dall'Himalaya alle Khasia Mountains,dal Sikki al Nepal al Bengala. Classic account of a journey by a Japanese monk through Tibet to Nepal between 1897-1903, and including a year's residence in the forbidden city of Lhasa disguised as a local doctor. His extraordinary narrative, detailing a series of events that ought never to have occurred at all, was originally published in a long series of articles written for two leading Japanese newspapers, and subsequently issued in book form (in Japanese) by Hakubunkwan.
