Shu for Mayai Co. very good. OBSCURE UNIQUE ITEM The letter is dated 8 June 1956 to a past client introducing a large number of textile samples so the client may select material for their next order. Mayai & Co. P.O. Box 5248 Kowloon Hong Kong had a retail store at 120 Nathan Road Kowloon in the Princess Theatre Bldg. and used also a cable address: "Mayaico." The letterhead also has their Chinese name address telephone number. The three additional sheets of textiles have actual samples: Sheet 1: has 13 samples about 3 x 2.5 cm each. Sheet 2: has 15 samples about 4 x 2 cm. each. Sheet 3: has 14 samples about 4 x 2 cm. each. The samples are for ladies: suit day dress trousers dress. CONDITION: The letters are basically in very good condition there is a small bit of the corner missing from the letter at upper right corner and some mended closed edge tears all in all very clean and solid examples. There are the old folds made when the letters were put into an envelope and sent to their customer. else nice samples. A lovely example of textiles used in fashions during the mid-1950's. . unknown

Classified "restricted": a cartographic representation issued following the 1967 riots of British military plans for securing the New Territories during civil disturbances or in the face of Chinese incursion across the Lo Wu border. The points are concentrated on inland through routes the coast west of Tsuen Wan and the railway line linking Kowloon to Guangzhou. The map was compiled by D Survey the branch of the Ministry of Defence tasked with creating maps for military use in conjunction with Far East Land Forces and 84 Survey Squadron. Colour lithographed map 640 x 770 mml recto with large plan of New Territories and legend verso with smaller maps of Sheung Shui & Fanling Yuen Long Tai Po and Tsuen Wan as well as small legend. Folding away to 170 x 205 mm. Small contemporary ink annotation near Yuen Long map. Scuffing some creasing where incorrectly refolded foxing on panels exposed when folded: very good. unknown

1897165561Hong Kong: Noranha & Co. Printers to the Hongkong Government 1897 & 1899. By order of Governor Robinson First editions the 1894 ordinances being a second printing issued shortly after first publication. Noranha & Co.'s volumes of ordinances from the 19th century are now rare both institutionally and in commerce. The regulations in these volumes concern a range of topics including the formation of a Hong Kong volunteer corps new requirements for the registration of medical practitioners and the introduction of licenses and numbered metal tags for all dogs. 1894 also heralded the strengthened regulation of slaughterhouses meat markets and the opium trade between Hong Kong Canton and Macao. The same year Governor William Robinson promulgated a lengthy directive on the government's legal resumption of the unsanitary Taipingshan area. Two works octavo. Original brown wrappers or boards green linen backstrips front covers lettered in black. Ex-New York City Bar Association Library with shelf label along spines and stamp on title pages. Wrappers with some wear losses to covers of 1893 volume with couple of large closed tears neatly repaired with tissue 1894 volume with paste-action browning to endpapers and 65 mm split at foot of front free endpaper contents of both evenly toned. First edition covering the first full year after the Second Treaty of Peking during which British officials consolidated the governance of the New Territories and adopted measures concerning prisons opium and sanitation. This volume lists the many individuals appointed by Governor Blake to administrative committees in each village of Kowloon and other new districts. A priority for lawmakers in 1899 was the improvement of the prison ordinance detailed in a lengthy section. The folding tables provide a detailed breakdown of the diets for inmates of different ethnicity and the amount of food to be provided at different times of the day. First edition first printing including the text of the ordinance authorizing the construction of the Hong Kong tramway and outlining its specifications. A company was founded the same year and the first line from Happy Valley and Causeway Bay to Shau Kei Wan was laid in 1903. Full service began in mid-1904. Governpr Sir Henry Blake took leave for almost all of 1902 and authority was exercised in his name by the lieutenant-governor Major-General Sir William Gascoigne 1844-1926 a hero of the Boxer Uprising and the 1899 Six-Day War in the New Territories. THE COMPLETE RARE SET OF FOUR COLOR POSTCARDS OF CANTON: This is seldom found complete with all four cards connected. Our RARE example is complete as issued. A lovely view of Canton city with two rivers meandering through the city. . This panorama covers the whole city and the rivers with several kinds of shipping. CONDITION: The four attached postcards are in excellent condition with bright color and no fading. There is some of the usual wear in the folds where a small bit of the color is lacking. A charming souvenir of the Rotary Club of Kowloon's annual fundraising bash for 1957 now hard to find in commerce and unrecorded in institutional collections. In the 1950s the club's balls were lavish affairs attracting everyone from the British governor downwards and garnering significant attention in the local press. The many adverts and messages from its commercial sponsors showcase a bygone era of Hong Kong business. Formed in 1948 in the wake of the Japanese occupation the club raised $350000 in its first ten years to fund community projects and scholarships. According to the menu printed in this programme this year members tucked into fruit cocktail consomme royale fillet of sole caprice Spanish-style roast chicken and pear belle Helene while the entertainment included dances impressions and bongo drumming. Octavo. Adverts throughout 4 leaves printed on blue paper. Original decorative card wrappers front cover lettered in blue.
