He was admitted to the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Chunking Central University and then transferred to the Faculty of Law of Dongwu University majoring in International Law. He was an English translator at Ta Kung Pao newspaper and subsequently moved to Hong Kong with the newspaper and worked as a copy editor at Ta Kung Pao and Hsin Wan Pao newspapers. At this time he also took on the job as scenarist-director at the Great Wall Movie Enterprises Ltd. and Phoenix Film Company in the late 1950s focusing on play writing and in 1955 he began to write swordplay fiction. In the meantime he started the Ming Pao Daily News with Shen Baoxin in 1959 acting as its director. Since 1966 he has expanded his publishing network considerably. The immense popularity of his martial-arts novels continues unabated having sold more than 1 billion copies making him the most popular living Chinese author. He has more than redefined the genre. Critic Simon Elegant has compared the power of the novels to a Chinese Three Musketeers a Patrick O'Brian naval series and George MacDonald's Flashman combined. ; "Kung fu together with Chinese medicine calligraphy painting playing Go and strumming the seven-stringed zither constitute the core of the Chinese cultural essence. All these elements appear in the novels and their placement firmly in the myth-shrouded past combine to produce a kind of 'cultural euphoria' in Chinese readers that cannot be found anywhere else in modern Chinese literature."--John Minford. ; in multicolored pictorial dustjackets with classic watercolor scenes color-coded by novel and stiff paper wrappers ; text in Chinese with many illustrations; Paginations: Bi xue jian 2 v. 4 828 p. : ill. ; 21 cm.; Series: Jin Yong zuo pin ji ; 3-4 ISBN: 7108006677; 9787108006677 ; LCCN:2007-556539 ; OCLC: 32447936 -- Shen diao xia lu 4 v. 4 1564 p. : ill. ; 21 cm. ; Series: Jin Yong zuo pin ji ; 9-12 ISBN: 7108006669 set; 9787108006660 set ; LCCN: 2007-556538 ; OCLC: 32447953 -- Xue shan fei hu 4 394 p. : ill. ; 21 cm. ; Series: Jin Yong zuo pin ji ; 13 ; ISBN: 7108006642; 9787108006646 ; LCCN:2007-558748 ; OCLC: 32752984 -- Fei hu wai zhuan 2 v. 4 726 p. : ill. ; 21 cm. ; Series: Jin Yong zuo pin ji ; 14-15 ISBN: 7108006650; 9787108006653 ; LCCN:2007-558749 ; OCLC: 32752899 -- Yi tian tu long ji 4 v. 4 1594 p. : ill. ; 21 cm. Argues that the liberation of women in China had become subordinate to the needs of the state and industrialization. Highland Park: International Socialists n.d. circa 1970s. Original printed wrappers 49 pages. 5.5 × 8.5 inches. Tables footnotes.

A scarce radical pamphlet issued by the International Socialists examining the gender politics of post-revolutionary China. The work critiques the Chinese Communist Party's claims to women's emancipation contending that the liberation of women had been made subordinate to the demands of state-building and industrial growth. In opposition to official party rhetoric the pamphlet situates women's issues within the broader political economy arguing that while the Communist revolution opened limited avenues for women's participation in the labor force and public life genuine equality was sacrificed to the state's overriding needs of production modernization and social control. Tables and statistical data are included to support its argument with footnotes directing readers to both Chinese sources and Western Marxist analysis. Pamphlets from the International Socialists are relatively uncommon especially those with sustained attention to global feminist and socialist struggles. This text is significant in documenting how New Left and Trotskyist organizations in the United States attempted to reframe Chinese Communism through a feminist lens situating women's emancipation not as a fulfilled revolutionary promise but as a deferred and compromised project. For institutional collections it offers an important perspective on the intersections of gender Marxism and internationalism in the mid-20th century while also reflecting the intellectual currents of American socialist critique. Mild wear to wrappers otherwise well-preserved. Overall. unknown
