En unos tiempos difíciles cumplió perfectamente la misión encomendada, hasta el punto de que fue la única persona extranjera invitada a la boda del Príncipe Akihito en 1959. Cada año, invariablemente, el dia de su cumpleaños un gran ramo de flores era llevado en limusina a su apartamento desde la Embajada Japonesa.
