Spine is unridged but divided into gilt-decorated 'panels' with 'Japan Geographical &' in penultimate upper. All edges gilt. College bookplate dated 1870 on front endpaper and Dollard Dublin tiny seller's plate. No sign of a conventional title page or of one having been removed. There is a full frontis of a Japanese Lady which is not listed in the 'embellishments' and also a six-section foldout map dated 1852 and credited to Routledge bound in before the first chapter, clean tear across one panel only.
