The most numerous group of Indian migrants were plantation workers of whom much has been written. Less well known were the Chulia Tamil Muslims who played a vital role in the city's commercial growth. Prima edizione First Edition. <em>Nel 1946 furono costruiti la<strong> fabbrica di lavorazione del tabacco di Cheongju e i magazzini Dongbu Changko</strong>. Le dimensioni di questa fabbrica e dei magazzini erano ENORMI. Impiegava oltre 3.000 residenti locali che venivano pagati per il loro lavoro e a cui era permesso parlare e scrivere nella loro lingua madre. Era un'azienda coreana e i cittadini di Cheongju erano orgogliosi dei risultati raggiunti. Un risultato incredibile considerando che erano passati 35 anni di colonialismo paralizzante. Nel 1999 la fabbrica stava diventando inattiva e si pensava a come reinventare lo spazio. Ma nel 2004 il cantiere chiuse definitivamente e rimase inattivo. Nel 2012 sono stati concepiti piani per rivitalizzare l'intero sito come spazio culturale. In Corea solitamente un luogo come questo viene demolito e viene costruito un nuovo complesso. Si tratta quindi di un<strong> </strong>passo epico per la<strong> pianificazione urbana</strong> che mantiene la storia e l'orgoglio locale.
