The majority of the images are annotated with the year 1308 AH 1929-1930 CE while only photograph 7 is dated 1307 AH 1928-1929 CE.The album documents large-scale engineering works and urban modernisation in Iran during the early years of the Pahlavi dynasty 1925-1941 under Reza Shah Pahlavi 1878-1944. In this period cities such as Tabriz underwent significant restructuring and infrastructural development as part of broader state-led reforms. The photographs depict surveying activities including measuring instruments mounted on tripods uniformed officials and extensive reconstruction works. Several photographs are identifiable as views of Tabriz including the development of the Gaji Gate Darb-e Gajil in December 1929 Ahrap Ahrab Street and Munjam Street under construction. Other views show street levelling and widening works illustrating the transformation of older urban quarters into broader modern thoroughfares.Further noteworthy subjects include railway works and one photograph taken in Jafarabad shows several men wearing a combination of traditional clothing including papakha-style headgear and Western clothing reflecting the broader cultural transition of the period. The present work therefore stands as an informative visual record of early 20th-century Iranian engineering urban renewal and state modernisation. With some glue staining to the dark blue paper on several pages. 1905144251905. Collection of 5 Vintage Optical Lantern images of Iran circa 1905. 3 1/4" x 4." The images include the Qajar Royal Palace the royal gardens in Tehran the Khaju Bridge in Isfahan and Muslims at prayer in a Persian Mosque. In the first image we see a Persian man in traditional 19th century clothing strolling in the Qajar Royal Palace and gardens. The second image is a very rare aerial view of 19th century Tehran labeled "the Shah's gardens and the new neighborhoods." Since this image predates airplanes it is an extremely rare find probably using an aerial balloon. In the third image we see the Khaju Bridge which is one of the most famous bridges in Isfahan Iran. It was built by the Persian Safavid king Shah Abbas II around 1650 C.E. on the foundations of an older bridge. It has 23 arches and is 105 meters long and 14 meters wide. The structure served as both a bridge and a dam and public meeting place as it links the Khaju quarter on the north bank with the Zoroastrian quarter across the Zayandeh River. The next image shows a larger gathering of Muslims kneeling at prayer under an archway in a Persian Mosque. The fifth image is the ruins of Persepolis.

These are positives on a glass lantern Gelatin silver bromide. Magic lanterns also known as optical lanterns provided one of the most popular forms of entertainment during their heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries. Using an artificial light source and a combination of lenses these devices enlarged small photographic transparency images and projected them onto a wall or screen. Three of these images were photographed by Arthur Radiguet of the esteemed "Maison Molteni" famous for its lantern images. The image of the Khaju Bridge was produced by T.H. McAllister an important New York-based company known for its high quality lantern images. Scarce and in very good condition. unknown

Illustrations. FOreword by Eric Avebury Member of the House of Lords. From Wikipedia: "The National Council of Resistance of Iran NCRI founded in 1981 in France is the parliament in exile of the "Iranian Resistance" and is a political umbrella coalition of five Iranian opposition political organizations the largest organization being the People's Mujahedin of Iran MEK. The President-elect of the NCRI is Maryam Rajavi. The NCRI is also co-chaired by Massoud Rajavi. He has not made any public appearances since the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The NCRI has been a controversial subject for economical-political exchange dialogues between the Iranian government the European Union and the United States on several occasions and considerable controversy surrounds the issues of whether the NCRI is merely a front group for the MEK whether the NCRI is involved in terrorism or whether it is "a legitimate dissident organization fighting for democracy in Iran." 41087saying "I have a big envy from my name that I cannot explain this strange feeling. Wish I could conceal myself in the heart of my sweetheart." 1 side 8vo. on monogrammed paper no place no date NASER-AL-DIN 1831-1896 Shah of Persia 4th Ruler of the Qajar Dynasty ascended the Peacock Throne in 1848 at the age of eighteen and ruled as Shah-in-Shah until he was assassinated. Following his succession of his father Mohammed Shah Naser-al-Din initially followed a policy of reform but became increasingly conservative. Although he curbed the power of the clergy in secular affairs introduced telegraph and postal services opened the first school offering education along Western lines opened the first railway and launched Persia's first newspaper later in his reign he steadfastly refused to deal with mounting pressure for more far-reaching reform. He was also the titular head of a considerable part of the Muslim world. The majority of his subjects were Shiite Muslims who looked to him as the legitimate successor and Vice-Regent of the Prophet. Demanding implicit obedience it was on account of his religious position that the Shah was able to exercise despotic power as a temporal ruler. His taxation was severe and arbitrary and he amassed a vast personal fortune and an enormous collection of historic diamonds. Nevertheless he still ran up a huge national debt partly as a result of his expensive foreign tours. He paid his first visit to Europe in 1873 and there are many anecdotes recounting his autocratic and 'Oriental' ways. It is said that he offered to purchase a certain court beauty whose charms he admired. There is the tale of his astonishment on finding a picture of an ass priced at five hundred times the value of the animal itself. On another occasion when he was travelling by rail he was shown the communication cord for stopping the train; he immediately made use of it since he wished the train to remain stationary while he took a nap it was only with the greatest difficulty that he was made to understand that this couldn't be allowed even for the 'King of Kings'. Translation: I have a big envy from my name that I cannot explain this strange feeling Wish I could conceal myself in the heart of my sweetheart unknown
